We’ll start with an easy one… when was B Dental established? We opened in February 2008, although we spent 18 months beforehand carefully planning, finding the right area and creating the space.

What’s your elevator pitch?

We’re a family-run, sophisticated and stylish modern dental practice in Islington, with spacious treatment rooms, plenty of natural light and state of the art equipment.  Our general dentists, hygienists and cosmetic experts are backed by a strong team of in-house specialists, including an Orthodontist, Implantologist, Endodontist, Periodontist and Oral Surgeon.  Having all these specialists under one roof ensures care is well-coordinated and carried out to a high standard.
 

What is the one piece of advice that you would give to someone just about to go into business on their own?

Try and resist the urge to take on everything yourself.  Much better to delegate as much as possible as early on as possible.  Concentrate instead on the only thing that really matters: the patient’s experience.
 

What is the best business decision that you’ve ever made? 

Engaging Waterfront to advise us when we discovered there was another dental practice that was trying to impersonate us online.  Not only did Waterfront force them to rebrand, they also got them to pay all their fees, so an excellent result all round!
 

And the worst…? (If you’re prepared to share!)

Shortly after we opened we hired a couple of front-facing staff members that we came to regret.  Your receptionist represents the front face of your practice and there is no substitute for excellent customer service.  We now often interview up to 50 candidates before we settle on the one with the perfect blend of warmth, calmness, cheerfulness and dental knowledge.
 

What are you going to do differently over the next 12 months? (Particularly in light of the current economic climate)

The digital world is changing and so are our patients’ expectations.  Great customer service and quality treatment is no longer enough, you have to go further and allow people to take control of their dental care into their own hands.  For example, they should be able to manage their own appointments and treatment plans quickly and efficiently at a tap of a finger.  Expect more in this space over the next few months.
