We enjoy rolling-up our sleeves and getting stuck in so that we can understand the commercial reality of your business and provide excellent legal advice. We are not extravagant with our own resources nor those of our clients.
We prefer to focus our energy and resources on meeting our clients’ needs. To do so, our tightly-knit multidisciplinary team adapts its ways of working to deal with the specific matter at hand. We are creative in both our approach to legal issues and the services we provide. No two clients are the same and we do not operate a one-size-fits-all policy.
We have brought together individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds, who all believe in our firm's approach to work and have a strong desire to help our clients achieve their goals. Our lawyers are commercially focussed with an in depth understanding of the industries in which they operate including IP law, IT and technology, commercial, corporate and employment law.
Founded in 2002. We have established ourselves as a highly successful niche IP/IT law firm. We have acted for the full spectrum of business clients including, individual entrepreneurs, SMEs, multinational corporations, companies listed on the London Stock Exchange, AIM (the Alternative Investment Market) and NASDAQ, and government agencies. The firm has expanded steadily and we now comprise five partners working together with a team of solicitors and trainee solicitors.
The original Waterfront team of one has grown steadily with the arrival of new partners and fee earners to support the expanding workload and a small admin team to handle office administration. In December 2008, Matthew Harris, an intellectual property expert and former Head of IP and IT dispute resolution at Norton Rose, joined the partnership. Alongside these changes, 2008 also saw the firm’s conversion to a Limited Liability Partnership and a rebranding exercise to mark the change from “The Waterfront Partnership” to “Waterfront Solicitors LLP”.
In December 2010, we announced further changes to expand and strengthen our team. Waterfront joined forces with the one-partner intellectual property firm Strickland (Legal) LLP, inviting its owner Piers Strickland to join the partnership. The increasing success of the Corporate team saw the promotion of its head Matthew Cunningham to partner in 2012. In 2015, founding partner Carole Hailey left the firm to pursue a career in creative writing.
In 2017, Waterfront invited Anthony Purvis to become a partner. Anthony joined the firm in 2012 and headed up the employment department shortly thereafter.
Over the years, as the team has developed and expanded, we have always prided ourselves on the calibre of our people, our services and our varied client base. Notwithstanding our expansion, we have remained true to our origins – we still focus on providing cost effective, commercially focused legal advice, going the extra mile for our clients, many of whom value us as a true part of their team – qualities which have been recognised year on year by prestigious legal directories, the Legal 500 and Chambers.
